Learning & Library Assistant
The Learning & Library Assistant plays a key role in supporting the school’s learning environment by managing the day-to-day operation of the library and providing in-class support across subjects when required. This position combines library stewardship, resource coordination, and hands-on assistance in lessons to help ensure all students have access to high-quality learning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Library Management
- Oversee the daily running of the school library, maintaining a safe, welcoming, and engaging library environment for primary and secondary students.
- Manage, catalogue and renew all related library resources, books, catalogues, magazines, databases etc.
- Support students and staff in locating and selecting appropriate reading and research materials.
- Promote reading for pleasure and academic enrichment through displays, reading events, clubs, and literacy initiatives.
- Manage library loans, return, and inventory using the Accessit library management system.
- Monitor student use of the library during break, lunch, and designated study periods.
- Liaise with teaching staff to ensure resources align with curriculum needs.
Learning Support
- Assist teachers in delivering learning activities across a range of subjects and key stages.
- Provide targeted support for individual students or small groups under the teacher’s direction.
- Help prepare learning materials, classroom resources, and equipment.
- Contribute to maintaining a positive, safe, and productive classroom environment.
- Support the implementation of individual learning plans as guided by teaching staff.
Whole-School Support
- Support literacy interventions and reading assessments where appropriate.
- Promote a whole school reading culture through events, book fairs, initiatives, and displays.
- Contribute to the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies by promoting high expectations and providing consistent support.
- Keep up to date with trends in library systems, educational technology, and eResources.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in whole-school and ISP initiatives.
- Undertake general administrative tasks related to library and learning support.
